Overview
AltText.AI is a client-side application that prioritizes your privacy. All processing happens in your browser—we do not store, transmit, or have access to your personal data or images.
Data Collection
What we collect: Nothing. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) or user-generated content to our servers.
What stays in your browser:
- Uploaded images (processed client-side only, never sent to our servers except for AI generation)
- Generated alt text
- Generation history (stored in your browser's IndexedDB)
- User preferences and settings (stored in your browser's localStorage)
AI Processing
When you use the AI alt text generation feature:
AI Provider: We use third-party AI services (Anthropic Claude or OpenAI GPT-4V) to analyze images and generate alt text.
What is sent to AI providers:
- Your uploaded image (encoded)
- Optional context you provide (keywords, page context)
- Selected style preference
Data retention: AI providers process the data according to their terms of service. We recommend reviewing:
No server-side storage: We do not store copies of your images or generated text on our servers.
Browser Storage (Client-Side Only)
IndexedDB: Used to store your generation history locally in your browser. This includes:
- Image thumbnails (compressed)
- Generated alt text
- Timestamps
- Style preferences
- SEO scores
localStorage: Used to store user preferences and settings.
Control: You can delete this data at any time:
- From the History page (delete individual items or clear all)
- By clearing your browser's data/cache
- Through your browser's developer tools
Third-Party Services
AI Providers: When you generate alt text, your image is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic or OpenAI) for analysis. No other third-party services are used for analytics, tracking, or advertising.
No Analytics: We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other tracking/analytics services.
No Cookies: We do not use cookies for tracking. Any cookies used are strictly functional.
Data Security
- Client-Side Processing: Most operations happen entirely in your browser.
- HTTPS: All connections are encrypted via HTTPS.
- No Account Required: We do not require registration or authentication.
Your Rights
- Access: All your data is already accessible to you (it's in your browser).
- Deletion: You can delete your data at any time through the History page or by clearing browser data.
- Export: You can export your history data (future feature).
- No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
